Project Description

Monumental Cities is a circuit that presents to the visitor the largest metropolises of Brazil, the most important cities considering tourism (Rio), economy (São Paulo) and politics (Brasilia) of this country of continental dimensions. These three cities, two of which were designated as the capital of Brazil (Rio and Brasilia), clearly show three moments in the history of the country, the colonial period in Rio, the advent of the Republic and its economic development in São Paulo and the avant-garde modernity in Brasilia. Three very Brazilian cities but very different from each other, with architectures full of contrast where we see the richest of the Brazilian baroque in the historic center of Rio, the skyscrapers in the impressive Paulista Avenue in the heart of São Paulo and the architectural avant-garde of the brilliant Oscar Niemeyer expressed in Brasilia.

Corcovado and Christ the Redeemer: From anywhere in the city, the visitor will see the most beautiful postcard of Rio de Janeiro: Christ the Redeemer on the Corcovado Mountain. This statue, located 710 meters above sea level, was inaugurated in 1931 and since then is one of the most visited tourist spots in the city. The tour starts in the neighborhood of Cosme Velho where you will take the famous Corcovado Train or Tourist Vans which travel through the Tijuca Forest with wonderful panoramic views of the largest urban forest in the world. A truly enchanting ride where the carioca urbanism and its exuberant nature are combined. From the foot of Christ the visitor will discover the best panoramic views of the city of Rio, including Guanabara Bay, the beaches of Copacabana and Ipanema among others and the Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon. After the visit to the Christ, we will proceed to the descent of the Corcovado in the Train or in the Vans to the same place of embarkation. Stop for lunch and then to the Sugar Loaf with City Tour.
The Sugar Loaf and the Panoramic City Tour: This tour starts with a tour of downtown Rio de Janeiro with highlights for the Sambodromo, the place where the samba schools parade during the most famous carnival in the world, the Metropolitan Cathedral in the shape of a pyramid with an internal diameter of 96 meters and a height of 80 meters, and the traditional Cinelandia with the Municipal Theater, the National Library and the Assembly building. After touring the center, the tour continues through the Flamengo neighborhood towards Urca, where the other symbol of the city of Rio de Janeiro is located: the Sugar Loaf, which in Guarani language means “high, pointed and isolated mountain”. It was at the foot of this hill that the city of Rio de Janeiro was founded by Estadio de Sá in 1565. The visit to the Sugar Loaf is done in two stages by a cable car, the famous “bondinho”, suspended by steel cables. The first stage connects Vermelha Beach to the Morro de Urca, located 215 meters above sea level, from where you can see the Guanabara Bay and its islands, Flamengo Beach, Corcovado Hill and the bridge that connects Rio to Niteroi. From the Morro de Urca begins the second part of the ascent to the Sugar Loaf at 395 meters high where you can see a unique view of Copacabana Beach and the Santa Cruz Fortress and some beaches of Niteroi. After staying on the balconies of Sugar Loaf, you will proceed to the descent using the same bondinho. At the foot of the hill your transportation will be waiting to take you back to the hotel. End of the tour and return to the hotel.
