A program to get to know the main attractions of the State of Maranhão: São Luis, its capital city with all its historical and cultural heritage; Santo Amaro and Barrerinhas, gateways to the Maranhão Desert. We will visit the historic center of São Luis, a UNESCO World Heritage Site with more than 3,500 houses and buildings from the period of colonial Brazil. We will continue to the Maranhão Desert where we will be dazzled by the landscape of dunes and lagoons where we will walk, we will have baths in its lagoons, 4×4 tours and a wonderful boat ride through the Preguiças River to see its mouth in the Atlantic Ocean. Undoubtedly a program that brings together culture and nature in one of the most incredible landscapes of northern Brazil.

Program:

1st Day: São Luis
Arrival at the airport in the city of São Luis. Reception with our guide and transfer to the hotel. Lodging.
At 14:00hs departure for the City Tour in S;ao Luis: The main attractions that we will visit in the tour are the Avenida Litoranea. Jansen Lagoon, Espigão Costeiro, Gonçalves Dias Square, Beira Mar Avenue, Dom Pedro Square, Dom Pedro Square, Lions Palace, Se Cathedral, Bendito Leite Square, Giz Street, Reggae Museum, Nauro Machado Square, Marcado das Tulhas, Portugal Street and Praia Grande. Return to the hotel. Free night.

2nd Day: São Luis/ Santo Amaro ( Desert of Maranhão )
At 06:40 a.m., boarding in an air-conditioned vehicle to the village of Sangue. The trip is about 240 km and the average duration is 02h30. Upon arrival at the meeting point, you will change vehicles and continue to the town of Santo Amaro. Check-in and accommodation at the lodge. Departure by 4×4 boat to visit Lagoa da Gaivota or Lagoa da Andorinha with appreciation of the typical landscape, walks along the trail in the middle of the dunes, bathing in the lagoon and sunset. Return to the lodge and overnight.

Day 3: Santo Amaro (Maranhão Desert)
After breakfast, departure by 4×4 for a ride to the village of Betânia. During the trip we will visit other lagoons along the way, including lagoons of singular beauty. Arriving there, we will swim in the lagoons. Afterwards we will return to Bethânia for lunch (not included) and free time to swim in the Alegre River, in front of the restaurant. In the afternoon we will visit other lagoons in the middle of the dunes to finally climb the highest dune and watch the sunset in the desert. Return to the hotel.

Day 4: Santo Amaro / Barrerinhas
Breakfast, check out and departure to Barrerinhas.
Boarding in air-conditioned vehicle to the city of Barrerinhas (Gateway to the Lenções Maranhenses National Park. Check in and accommodation at the Hotel. At 13:40hs departure in 4×4 vehicles for the circuit of the Grandes Lenções. Rafting on the Preguiças River and then along a trail to the stopping point (about 40 minutes of trail). Disembarkation and start of the light walk through the white dunes and visit to the lagoons available at the station with stops for fresh water baths and contemplation of the beautiful landscape and the sunset. Return to the vehicle by the same trail and return to the hotel. Free night.

Day 5: Barrerinhas
After breakfast departure from the hotel to the pier at Avenida Beira Rio and boarding by speedboat for the circuit of Rio Preguiças (Environmental Protection Area). During the tour you will appreciate the typical landscape of mangroves and the fauna of the region around the river. The first stop will be in the community of Vassouras, place where the Small Lençoes and a small community of Riberinhos and place where you can observe the “Prego” monkeys that live there and interact with visitors. Continuation to Mandacaru, a small village where we find the Farol de Preguiças with 160 steps to appreciate a 360º view of the region of dunes, river and its mouth into the sea and the typical vegetation of the place. Finally Caburé, a beach that divides the river from the sea. Stop for lunch (not included). From 15:00hs departure by boat passing by the “Igarapes” of the river to Barrerinhas. Transfer to the hotel

Day 5: Barrerinhas / São Luis
At 4:00 am departure for the tour “Breakfast in the Desert”. Transfer from the hotel by 4×4 to the Lençoes Maranhenses National Park with time to walk through the dunes before sunrise. Afterwards, breakfast prepared on one of the highest dunes of the desert to watch the sunrise. Time for contemplation and return to the hotel. Free morning for optional excursions. At 16:00hs departure to São Luis. Overnight at the hotel and free night.

6th Day: São Luis
Breakfast, check out and transfer to the airport. End of program.
