To begin this experience we will start with a comfortable stay at the Juma Opera located in the city center with a privileged view of the Teatro Amazonas, symbol of Manaus and one of the main tourist attractions of this incredible destination. We’ll get to know Manaus and all its attractions, its palaces and buildings from the golden age of the rubber industry, as well as its markets full of fish and jungle fruits that delight visitors. Then we head into the deep jungle to stay at Juma Lodge, a unique refuge built on the banks of the Rio Negro on stilts. Comfort in the middle of the extreme nature of the Amazon. Tours during the day, afternoon and evening to enjoy every moment in the middle of one of Brazil’s most impressive landscapes.

JUMA OPERA
Juma Opera is a historic boutique hotel of the highest standard that opened in February 2020. It is located in the historic center of Manaus, opposite the Teatro Amazonas, the city’s main tourist attraction. Practically next to the hotel are the Palace of Justice and the Church of São Sebastião, architectural jewels contemporary to the Teatro Amazonas, both dating from the late 19th century. This hotel was designed to blend in with the historic buildings of the square in which it is located. Part of its building is listed by the National Historical Heritage, as it belonged to the former American consulate where President Theodore Roosevelt stayed during his expedition to the Amazon. Its 41 rooms are acoustically treated to preserve the tranquillity inside and most of them have a view of the wonderful Teatro Amazonas. Its restaurant, also overlooking the theater, offers passengers the best of Amazonian cuisine, with fish and fruits from the jungle and a touch of indigenous influence. Its swimming pool, located on the hotel terrace, offers not only a view of the dome of the theater, but also a beautiful view of Manaus and the Rio Negro on the horizon.

JUMA LODGE
Juma Lodge is located in a remote region 100 km southeast of Manaus, in a totally preserved area. The journey to the lodge takes approximately three hours by car and boat. During the river journey we pass the famous “Meeting of the Waters” where we observe the meeting of the Solimões and Negro rivers with the contrasting color of their waters. With only 20 bungalows, Juma Lodge was built on the mainland on stilts in the treetops, totally integrated into the forest. This construction was necessary to cope with periods of flooding, when the rivers rise up to 15 meters. The lodge’s rooms have views of the jungle or the river, and all have verandas with hammocks to relax in after a day full of activities.

City Tour in Manaus.
Departure from the hotel at 09:00 am in the direction of the Port of Manaus, the Adolpho Lisboa Market with an internal visit, the varied Fish Market and the Banana Market located in the center of Manaus with an immense variety of fruits from the river and the jungle, in sizes, flavors and colorful natural products. Then we head downtown where we will pass the Rio Negro Palace, the official seat of the Amazonas State Government and a fine example of architecture from the golden age of rubber. Here we will visit the Museum of the City of Manaus MUMA (optional), a cultural space located in the Pazo de la Libertad in the center of Manaus. Then we continue with a visit to the imposing Teatro Amazonas, inaugurated in 1896 and one of the city’s main tourist attractions. It is a symbol of the rubber era and of all the wealth and grandeur that is still conveyed in its corridors, halls and works of art (Important: the Teatro Amazonas is open regularly from Tuesday to Saturday, on Sundays only in the morning).

Introductory talk with a native guide about life in the Amazon.
Presentation with a native guide about life in the largest jungle on the planet. The native guide will talk informally about the myths, legends, customs and lifestyle of the Amazonian peoples.

Meeting of the Waters (nautical excursion).
Leaving Manaus, we passed the incredible phenomenon known as the Meeting of the Waters of the Nego and Solimões rivers. The waters of these two rivers run parallel for a long stretch without mixing to form the Amazon River. As well as seeing the contrasting colors of their waters, you can feel the difference in temperature between the two rivers.

Trips in rowing canoes.
This canoe trip is a sightseeing tour around the lodge where you will be able to observe the “Igarapés” (a natural labyrinth formed by streams and forest, presenting one of the typical landscapes of the Amazon). An excellent opportunity to observe not only the local flora, but also the fauna that inhabits these ecosystems.
Night walks in the jungle to observe alligators.
Motorized canoe trip to observe caimans and nocturnal fauna. The canoes carry powerful lanterns to locate the communities of caimans resting peacefully on the river banks. The canoes approach the caimans to observe and photograph them in their natural habitat. In addition to this activity, visitors will be able to hear the typical sounds of nocturnal fauna and the aromas of the botanical species that flourish on the banks of the Igarapes. A sensory experience of the rainforest at night.

Sunrise on the Juma River.
One of the most memorable moments of your stay in the heart of the Amazon is watching the sunrise. Departure from the lodge not yet at night to go in canoes to places on the river where there is a panoramic view of the sunrise. During this tour, we will observe the wonderful shades of color of the Amazonian sky, its reflection in the waters while listening to a diversity of birdsongs that wake up with the day.

Walk through the jungle.
During this walk through the dense Amazon rainforest, along little-traveled paths, the guide will introduce you to the basics of survival in the forest with explanations about wildlife, showing you a series of botanical species that are edible, medicinal and have various uses for those who live in this habitat of extreme nature.

Sport fishing for piranha.
We boarded a boat for this recreational piranha fishing activity in the tributary of the Amazon, in shallow water areas where there are more schools of piranhas. It’s a catch-and-release fishery that allows you to observe this voracious Amazonian fish with total care and safety for the visitor. After fishing, we head to a section of the river to find the immense “Victoria regias”, these large floating plates capable of serving as an aquatic platform for birds, reptiles and even small mammals. We return to the hotel during the sunset, which enchants visitors with the shades of the Amazonian sky.

Interaction with the “Botos” (Amazonian dolphins).
One of the most unforgettable experiences of a visit to the Amazon and its rivers is interacting with the “pink dolphins”. Visitors are taken in motorized canoes to floating platforms in the middle of the river, where they often meet these animals that approach tourists with curiosity. Swimming with the pink dolphins is an incredible experience, especially for families with children.

Visit to an indigenous tribe.
Cultural interaction with the peoples of the Amazon would not be complete without this activity. A visit to an indigenous tribe will give visitors a first contact with the native peoples who own the Amazonian land and who open the doors of their villages to show their current way of life. We will be able to visit the main house in the middle of the jungle where the community’s ceremonies and rites take place, listen to them sing and play music with instruments from before the arrival of the Jesuits and a rich display of indigenous handicrafts. An excellent opportunity for photographs and videos to record this ethnic meeting of the two cultures.

Jungle hike with regional lunch
Walk along the jungle trails to learn more about the surrounding jungle, where the highlight of the day will be an Amazonian lunch of regional cuisine cooked on the embers. Afterwards, time to rest and relax in hammocks hanging from the trees.

Visit to the House of a Cabloco
Tour to interact with the local community, the Brazilians who live in the middle of the forest known as “Cablocos” (they are not native peoples but are Amazonian communities, the fruit of the encounter between the white man and the indigenous peoples). Here we will be able to see the culinary arts of these people who feed themselves with the resources that come from the forest and the river. Above all, we’ll see the production of manioc flour, the staple food of these communities. We’ll also see the medicinal plants used daily that come from the jungle’s ecological pharmacy.
